Back from California

So, the daily blogging thing didn't work out. It turned out that internet was $10/day in the hotel room and I just didn't want to pay for it, so instead I went out and took somewhere around 200 pictures of my adventures.

Some highlights were:

- Meeting very friendly people on the rides who were surprised it was my first ever visit to Disneyland.
- Riding Splash Mountain with a family from Calgary.
- Riding California Screamin' with a girl from Australia - her friends were too chicken to ride it!
- Getting stuck on the Indiana Jones ride while just leaving the station, and being sent around a second time without having to disembark the ride!

You can see all the pictures and movies I took here: http://picasaweb.google.ca/RavenSirene/California08

Catching Up

So quite a bit has happened since I last posted. On March 18th I had an accident at work. I'll quote the report that my co-worker submitted, he describes it best:

Yesterday, March 18, 2008 at approximately 10:30am, a delivery driver came to the Security Office and indicated that he had a large shipment for MTS Company X. This turned out to be a HP Blade Chassis to be used in the MTS Company X infrastructure. The drivers name was Joe, and the company name is Speedy Transport.

MTS Allstream security called and told me that there was a large delivery for MTS Company X at the loading dock. At the time I was with Massimo, Chris and Leisa; in Leisa’s office looking at two firewalls required for a MTS Company X build. We all decided to go to the loading dock and see what had arrived. The driver opened the truck, and pointed out the large box on a skid that was for MTS Company X. It was the blade chassis; and weighed a few hundred pounds. Seeing this, I went to the storage room to grab the Allstream pump truck so that we could move the equipment into the datacentre.

The driver put a pipe; used to block the back of his truck and prevent equipment from sliding around, from the back of the truck and placed it against the wall. It was leaning against the rolling doors tracks. He then brought in the blade chassis box and left it on the loading dock floor, and removed his pump truck in preparation for putting in back on his truck. I came back at that moment and stood in the doorway to the loading dock with the Allstream pump truck. Leisa bent down to look at the shipping box. At that moment, the bar started to slide down the wall towards me, just as I turned to look at it. Massimo gave warning that the bar was slipping; and seeing it out of the corner of my eye, I put up a hand to protect myself. The bar glanced off my hand, giving me a bit of a scrape and nicked my head, although it did not have enough momentum to really do damage. However, by glancing off my hand and head the bar was deflected towards the middle of the room. Massimo and Chris both attempted to grab the bar, but, missed. Leisa was just starting to straighten out as a result of the warning when the bar came down on her head.

Leisa immediately fell to the ground holding her head; and Chris, Massimo and I went to check on her condition. After a few minutes on the loading dock, we assisted Leisa into the building. She sat in the hall, holding her head for awhile, before saying that she was feeling dizzy. Fearing a possible concussion, Chris Bowes took her to the hospital to be checked.

You should be able to pull the video surveillance from the loading dock to see the events.

Well, that wasn't fun. 6 hours in the hospital, they for some reason had it down as a 'headache'. I took the following day off work and then they sent me home early on the day I did return to work. Ah well, I'm none the worse for wear.

A day before that I had a dentist's appointment. There was still quite a bit of snow on the ground and on the sides of roads. When I arrived at my Dentist's office, I watched some moron park in the driveway, taking up both spots. So I had to drive down the street to find street parking:

So I parked at the end of the road, across from the school on what I thought was a solid chunk of snow. I walked to the office, had my teeth serviced, then returned to my car to discover I was stuck and stuck good. I tried rocking the car a bit, but my left front wheel was in a very huge rut that was so deep that the undercarriage of my car was resting on ice. Some guy tried to help push me out, but apparently (according to him) he had a hernia and couldn't really push. So I went back to the office and I asked for a phone so I could call a tow truck.

Well, the secretary there just wouldn't have it at all. She insisted that they could help. She went and got my Dentist and the three of us trooped down the street to look at things. She went back for mats and cardboard while Dr Kivlichan and I tried to rock the car out again. She returned, placed the cardboard and mats then the two of them tried to push me out. Now, I've never had to rock my car back and forth before so I wasn't very good at it. So I asked my Dentist if he'd ever driven manual transmission before, to which he answered yes. I then asked him to drive! He hopped in and the two of us girls, now with another guy who stopped to help, managed to push my car out! It was incredible to get help from such kind people. I sent them a bouquet of flowers the following day.

I received a voice mail on Tuesday the 18th from the Michelle, the secretary thanking me for the flowers. Feels good. Just good.

Tiffin, My Home Away from Home

Well, made it to Tiffin ok. There was no snow until I got south of Freemont which is almost all the way there. Good thing too, its now Saturday and it still is snowing. I'd really like to get to Best Buy to pick up that Slipstream Edition of the entire series of Andromeda. There are episodes I haven't seen and I really liked the series in general. Considering that its $100 cheaper in the US than it is in Canada.

Up Too Late, Up Too Early

So last night I didn't get to bed till 1am. Considering that I am normally up at 6am on Fridays that made for little to no sleep. What sleep I could get was good, and I just did not want to get up out of bed today.

Breakfast consisted of one Weight Watcher's whole wheat english muffin with some peanut butter. Yum. I don't think I'm drinking enough water as I seem to be retaining water again. I weighed myself and it seems that I've gone up a full pound and 2 ounces. That has to be water.

I'm off to Ohio today, despite the Winter Storm Watches in effect. (Notice they're watches for today not warnings). I understand that the weather is set to get a lot worse over the weekend so I think its a good thing that I have Monday and Tuesday off work. I'm going to try to get an early start heading down as I have a feeling the weather will be challenging to say the least.

Lunchie Munchies

So went for lunch around 12:40pm. I was actually starting to feel a little hungry, so I decided that I'd get the rest of the money I owe Tobey in addition to a roll of loonies for laundry, peruse around Walmart for a bit, maybe head in to H&M to look at pullovers then pick up my customary 6" sub from Subway.

That didn't turn out to be what I did at all. While I did make it to the bank ok, I got side tracked while in Walmart. I ran in to Massimo, Peter and Dale, the latter of which was buying a game for his sons. Dale was disappointed that Walmart didn't have Guitar Hero for Wii or an Eye Toy for his PS2, so I suggested we go over to Zellers to check there. I know they had Eye Toys the last time I was there looking at games for my PSP. So we walked over there, checked it out, they had the Eye Toy but not the Guitar Hero III for Wii, so they ended up getting nothing. Fair enough, we looked around EB Games who has even less than Walmart and left disappointed.

While we were walking around I mentioned Yahtzee's review of games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero and I discovered that they'd never seen Zero Punctuation. I have since remedied this and given them each the link to the site. I love his reviews.

For lunch today, I had 6" Roast Chicken on Whole Wheat bread (they were all out of the Honey Oat) and a bottle of water. I think I'll just have one of those blue menu meals for dinner tonight and drink my Splenda sweetened iced tea.

Day After a Snowstorm

Well, the morning went well. I slept incredibly well last night and woke up this morning well rested. It wasn't a chore to get up or hop on the elliptical at 6:30am. I'm happy with the way my hair turned out this morning, enough to put on some concealer, foundation and mascara. I generally feel good about myself and my situation today. In the midst of all that fun and frivolity, I completely forgot to eat breakfast. I was planning on toasting two crumpets and spraying them with some of that 0 calorie/lowfat 'I Can't Believe Its Not Butter' spray (which I still can't find in Canada!), but by the time the hair and face were done, I had forgotten even though my stomach was rumbling.

The morning drive in was something akin to playing "Dodgems" with flying chunks of icy snow originating from the roofs of cars. I have seen solid chunks of ice come flying off the roofs of cars and I worry that these could do real damage to my car. You can't swerve and avoid them for fear of having a collision with another vehicle, so I just cringe when they hit my car and hope for the best.

Considering that I did not have breakfast at home, I decided to purchase the toasted western and coffee deal they have downstairs. Whole wheat toast with a little hot sauce mixed in with the eggs, an Irish Cream coffee and I'm good to go. Since I was in such a fine mood, I actually offered to buy the security guard a coffee. They can't really leave the office area and they're stuck there for ten hours during the day. I would imagine that this is an insane bore, so why not jack them up on coffee too. Ok, I'm evil. Maybe I was just trying to brighten her otherwise dreary day. Its not often that people buy each other coffee these days.

Weighty Issues

Weighed in this morning. I am 165lbs, a size 12. I don't like being this big. I want to be size 8 again, like I was two years ago. This stupid thyroid thing, I don't know if sometimes I use it like a crutch or an excuse to eat or as an excuse for my bad habits. Tobey thinks I use it as an excuse sometimes.

I am trying my best not to keep bad food in the house. I try to read labels more often and check my portions. I love a good salad, in fact I crave them from time to time. I also hop on my elliptical every morning, first thing in the morning for 30 mins while I catch the last half hour of Andromeda on Showcase.

The thing is, Tobey and I are going to Anaheim next month and I do not want to have flab or extra weight or flappy arms etc when we get there. I'd love to lose 15lbs in 6 weeks, but I think 10 is more realistic. I really need to keep track of what I'm eating, so maybe I'll write things down here.

Yeah, somewhere I can review what I ate and when I ate it. I have set it up so emails are posted.

So We Begin Again

At one time I used to have a personal blog here, however I stopped posting on it a few years ago. The blog still exists, however I no longer have access to it. Well, I tried contacting TPTB at Blogspot.com however they have not responded, so I just cut everything from the other site and pasted it in to one entry here. This is why the previous entry looks so confusing.

I wish they'd actually help me to recover the old site. Unfortunately no response is no response.

Long Time No See...

Well, its been a little over a year since I've posted in this blog. Funny how time flies. I see my last post was about going to DragonCon. I'll be leaving for this year's DragonCon in less than two weeks. Fun. Work's been busy as usual. Got to go, but neat. I'm still alive and kicking.

Countdown to DragonCon

Hey Everyone!

I am so sick of working its becoming a real struggle to come in to work every day. I'm hoping this week will go quickly so I can be one week closer to my vacation. I've sent off my flight information to David who should be booking his flight shortly - I hope there's still room on mine. I don't see why not though, the last couple years it was relatively empty. I guess not too many people are flying to Atlanta or its surrounding area.

35 days to go. Can't wait!

Meh.

I haven't been losing the weight that I want to. I've been eating too much food lately. Last night after Hap Ki Do, David and I went to Dominion for some fruit - I love having blueberries on my morning cereal. I ended up buying a caesear salad, crispy minis and small tub of salted sunflower seeds. Now, I ate the salad sans dressing and left all the bacon bits behind. I ate too many sunflower seeds and pretty much blew away all the excersise that I did yesterday. I am not making progress. This upsets me.

Purple Belt, Here I Come

So, found out last night at Hap Ki Do that I'm going to be tested for my next belt on the 31st. I think it's about time! I know all the techniques required for the belt and I'm glad Master Woodburn is confident in my skills. Finally to be away from the 'sunrise' belts!

I have about a month left to get my costume together for DragonCon this year. I've heard from Rob at Thak and he's fully under way in constructing the armor. I've brought in the boots to get rubber soles put on them today - one thing I can't stand is the wooden soles on them right now and I want to be able to walk silently over hard surfaces without sounding cheap. I'll ask him if he can put a black border around the top of the boots too. If the cobbler can't do it, I'll pick up the basting and do it myself with my crappy sewing machine at home.

I have also got to get off my butt and get the material for the shorts and vest required for the costume as well. I believe Karen and I are going to do that on Sunday - I hope I can find a Fabricland that is open.

This weekend should be relatively good, Li's bbq is on Saturday which I'll attend after my weapons class. Sunday, out with Karen. Reminds me, I need to tell David that I'll need the car on Sunday.

Btw, this meeting is very boring.

Vin Diesel

Ok. After many hours of discussion with Seryna, many more hours of study by attending and renting movies, I have come to the undeniable truth: Vin Diesel is the sexiest, hottest man alive. Yep, you heard it here. Not like I had to tell anyone, but he really is very handsome and obviously takes care of himself. So, I've started to pick up magazines and articles that feature Vin Diesel, starting with a decent article in this month's Details magazine. I know its a men's magazine, however I couldn't resist the pictures of Vin.

My stupid bank card is starting not to work in about 50% of the places I go, including Winners. I think today I'll take a bit of an extended lunch and go to the bank and get a new card. Hopefully it'll look a little prettier than the original one I have. The darn thing's approximately 6 years old and falling to bits.

Anyways, I have yet another boring meeting to attend now. Hopefully this update will go through and blogger has sorted out their server issues.

I Am Spending Way Too Much Money

Well, I won an auction unexpectedly last night, but it is a nice suprise! I can't believe I actually landed an autographed Chakram made by the Ren Pics propmasters! This is extremely excellent.

Things have been pretty decent so far this week. On Monday, we had our monthly Xena Meetup. Two new people attended, and we had it at the Frog and Firkin. This time it was much more successfull as there was no smoking in the Pub due to the new law. We even sat and played NTN and had a blast doing so! I have now added the Frog and Firkin to the list of venues for us to meet at and I think its going to take. The new girls are great, new to Toronto and a welcome part of our little gang.

I ran the body fat analyser this morning before I ate breakfast and it returned that I have a BMI of 21 and body fat percentage of 17.5%. That's super cool, as two years ago I was way up at 36%. I still want to lose another 2 inches from my chest and my waist. I think that is totally obtainable - just build some more muscle and lose a little more body fat. I would eventually like to be in the 10-15% range and I'm pretty close to the top part of that range now.

I've purchased my plane tickets for Atlanta this year - boy, am I ever looking forward to it! I can't wait to see my friends and just let loose and relax during the convention! Deborah Abbott will be at DragonCon. She is well known in the Xena community as a Lucy/Xena look alike. Last year, I had a lot of people tell me that I looked like her. We'll see if she comes in costume this year. Karen and the girls say I can do a much better job than she does anyways. Well, we'll see! I may just end up paying for alterations on my costume again rather than using the corset that I won on eBay. My chest is still too big for the corset.

Well, back to this lovely boring meeting that is wasting my time.

My Boring Life

So, I know I haven't updated in a while - this is totally my fault. The amount of work that I have to complete each day at work is horrendous and I feel insanely guilty for taking a bit of time to update my blog. When I get home, often times the last thing I want to look at is another computer. Its a vicious cycle.

Speaking of cycling, David and I did a marathon cycle on Sunday. We rode from Yonge and the 401 all the way down to Mortimer and Broadview and then back again which is approximately a 20k ride. My butt is still sore today. Anyways, Simon and Jean have asked us if we're interested in going on a long bike ride on Thursday which is Canada Day and thus, a stat holiday.

Went to see Thak (Robb) on friday to see about getting the armour done. Turns out its a little bit more intricate than the thought it would be, but the price is pretty much what I expected. He says he should have it done by early August so I can try it on and 'work some kinks out' and make sure it works with the clothing I've lined up as the rest of the costume. I definately need to get moving on the rest of the costume. It shouldn't be that difficult. I have the pattern for the shorts, just need to find material. I think I will hand draw out the pattern for the top and armour bits. It should be fun!

Hapkido tonight. I think today I'll be able to purchase my boken and start learning the Katana.

I Hate My Job

This job sucks. I'm so tired of this job it isn't funny. I really need a vacation. I am _SO_ looking forward to attending Atlanta this year. I want to go and book my flight to Greenville and spend my time looking forward to getting on an air plane and flying away.

Oh, I picked up a few things today at lunch time:

Xena: Warrior Princess Season 4
Chronicles of Riddick - Dark Fury
Chronicles of Riddick - Escape from Butcher Bay (XBox)

I must admit that I am a Vin Diesel fan now. The man is nice to look at and he has a voice that rivals Barry White.

Anyways, today's theme is CAB. (Change Advisory Board). Apparently I sit on many of these. Yay, go me. I can actually say yes or no to things and people now listen.
